This would be a common question these days that arises to anyone who is going to buy a portable computer. Both have it’s own pros and cons. Here I drill out some of the points that I figured out when I was using a nebook – Dell Inspiron 1210 netbook.
Netbook VS Notebook
|Usually runs on an Atom processor||i3, i5 are common these days on laps.|
|1GB to 2 GB RAMs.||2GB to 6GB RAMs.|
|No Optical Drives – You can’t use CD/DVDs||Optical drives will be common in notebook.|
|80GB to 220GB hard disk.||More than 220 GB hard disk.|
|1-3 USB Ports.||3 to many USB ports.|
|Bluetooth, WiFi will not be found usually.||Usually shipped with WiFi, Bluetooth.|
|Screen size ranges from 7 inch to 12 inches.||Screen size starts from 14 inches.|
|Lesser weight and easy to carry.||Heavier and birden to carry outside.|
|Usually dead slow if you do not take care.||Faster except some extreme conditions.|
|Best suited for Internet browsing and other basic computing tasks. If you launch big applications like Photoshop or CAD, you have to compromize with speed.||Flexible to use any application that a computer does. However, it depends on the configuration and how you are maintaining.|
If you use big application like CAD, you better go for a lappi unless your budget isn’t flexible.
Otherwise, if you use some basic computing tasks like Googling, Social sites or any other light weight web based applications, I suggest you to buy a netbook. It is not true that you can’t run big application in netbook. You can run. But if you launch multiple windows, your computer starts hanging for some seconds and resumes back. However I did all my works in my 1GB Atom netbook for 2 whole years and I was okay with that.
